About

Alana Smith has been an organizer and activist with the International Socialist Organization since 2001. She received her Master’s degree from the John W. Draper Program in Humanities and Social Thought at New York University in 2010.

This blog is intended to provide political analysis of mental health issues from a radical Left perspective, and to be an informational resource for activists who struggle with mental health problems. The content is my own personal opinion and should not be construed as being representative of any organization. I do not have an educational background in psychology, and none of the content of this site should be taken as professional medical or mental health advice, or as a substitute for the advice of a professional. Please consult with your licensed care provider before starting, changing, or suspending any medication or other treatment.

It is natural to want to share your own personal experiences, but when commenting please be aware that this is a public forum and it is not necessarily advisable to share certain information publicly, particularly during a period of time when activists are being targeted for investigation. I encourage people to organize in-person support groups and to make use of local resources that will allow them to maintain their privacy rather than divulge their mental health history in an unsecure electronic format.
